DECEMBER 2017 NEWSLETTER – Expanding Your Reach

Hi Troy,

OK, OK, we’ve been talking about holiday related things for the last couple of newsletters.  Now you’re in the midst of it all and we’d like to switch gears a bit.

Do you ever think, “Gee, business is going well, but how do I get repeat customers, or how do I get new clients on board with my service?”  By expanding your reach!  Here are 3 ways to do just that:

  • Show a new way to use your product or service. Nutella is currently running ads which show how you can use their product as the filler on pretty cut-out Christmas cookies.  For all those out there who are used to only spreading it on bread, or eating it straight out of the jar (LOL), this is a new use, which doesn’t really require much more work on the consumer’s end, just another way of looking at the product, and the need to go get another jar.  So how can your product or service be looked at in a new way??

  • Make your product or service a gift. Another ad that is out there right now is promoting a DNA kit as a Christmas gift.  A DNA kit?!  Betcha never thought about giving that to Mom before the ad sparked that thought.  Let’s all map our DNA!!  Merry Christmas!!  This is an easy one, as anything can become a gift: home inspection, personal training, financial advisory – they can all be given as gifts to one who needs or wants that particular item.  You just need to remind your clients, and prospective clients of that.

  • Play off of, and extend a sale. Black Friday is just one day, right?    Many Black Friday sales get extended through Small Business Saturday, through Cyber Monday, and guess what, even further.  If you are like me, and by Tuesday you think, “Aw shoot, I missed all the sales.”, you’ll be pleasantly surprised that it has been extended another day or 2 or 3 so that you can take advantage of it.  You can do the same thing with your product or service, or you can even create your own sale day!  How about “Time’s Not Up Tuesday”?

The bottom line here is to take a fresh look at what you sell and see how you can offer it in new and unique ways.  You thought your product was a one time only kind of purchase – think again!  You need to find new clients – when people give your service as a gift, you’re getting them!  Make a sale unique and interesting to attract business too!

I hope this has made you think about some twists you can employ for your business in the new year.

COACH'S CHALLENGE

Since we’re talking about expanding your reach and giving you a different perspective to think about, now is a good time to really start expanding your new perspective into your 2018 strategic planning. This time of year is often the time where small business owners and professionals do their strategic planning for the New Year. My challenge to you is to do three things before the start of 2018.
  1. Do an End of Year review
This is really crucial in order to learn the lessons of your efforts during this past year. It’s one of the hidden elements of setting goals. A lot of people set goals and make plans. Not a whole lot of people actually do a review of those goals and plans to analyze what worked and where they fell short. One of my clients calls it “Gleaning the Gold” I like that. Use this review to help you set up the right focus and goals for 2018.
  1. Establish a theme for 2018
What is this New Year going to be all about for you? Let this theme be the North Star that guides you throughout the entire year. Make it something that you will base all of your decisions around. This will help you make more focused, deliberate, and consistent decisions all year long.
  1. Set BIG WIN goal for the year.
Pick a measurable objective that you will be really really really excited to accomplish in 2018. Make it something that when you get it done you’ll really feel like you made a big advancement in life.
Anybody want to take a guess as to what my theme for 2018 is?

Happy Holidays everybody!!!

Tis the season to be JOLLY!!!
