JANUARY 2018 NEWSLETTER – Winning

Hi Troy,

Happy New Year!  Another year is upon us.  And in business, that means plans for new and exciting endeavors and opportunities for…WINNING

Work towards winning in business is usually not for the faint of heart.  But if you have made yourself knowledgeable, have consulted mentors, have studied the market, know the risks and have prepared for all eventualities, the rewards could be yours.

We all know the old adage of “No Risk, No Reward”.  So what exactly are you going to risk in 2018 in order to WIN BIG!

Maybe it could be around starting a new marketing campaign which involves investment of precious dollars, but could bring in much more.  Are you planning on hiring more people – which also costs money, but which will help take things off your plate so you can concentrate on bigger pictures?  Or could you take a big leap with the hopes of greater returns?

There are 5 keys to setting yourself up to WIN BIG:

  1. Clearly defined intended outcome. This is in essence the target at which you are aiming. You could call it your goal, but whatever it is, you have to know what the target is in order to hit it.
  2. Specific skill set. You have to have the right skill set in order to successfully hit that target. These skills can either be developed or bought.
  3. Appropriate incentive. There’s got to be a strong enough “why” that will help us endure the up and down struggles that we will encounter.  In other words, the incentive is the fuel that keeps us going to help us overcome everything in our way.
  4. Adequate resources. Typically in the form of time, money, people and even as I mentioned before, skills can be an important resource.
  5. A clearly defined action plan.  This will keep us on track and laser focused and help us avoid the distractions that cross our radar consistently throughout the day.

We at EVOC know that planning for winning doesn’t necessarily mean you win.  At least not what you intended to win.  We hope that you do WIN BIG, but if there are roadblocks in 2018, we hope you can take a step back and see them more clearly.  Maybe you are meant to slow down and take things in more bite sizes.  Maybe you are being shown that the track you are on needs adjusting.  Maybe you are banging your head against a wall and need to find a new way to break through As a Coaching Company, we’re here to help look at things through a new lens, should you need it.  But whatever that “win” is, we hope it leads you to great successes and moments worth celebrating this year.

Develop a Winning Mindset

COACH'S CHALLENGE

Winning…it’s easy right? Ever noticed how some people just seem to win a lot.

Well, there’s a mindset to winning. And there’s also a rhythm to winning. I’ve played in a LOT of competitions throughout my life…in team events and individual events. I’ve experience both the ups and the downs of working hard, grinding, being passionate and driven, and putting my absolute best effort into my training and practice. And I’ve won…aaannndd I’ve lost. Man it sucks to lose when you’ve put in a whole lot of training and hard work, but it happens.

You know what I’ve found works best…flowing with the rhythm of winning.

My experience of winning often came along in a series of successes. These successes were often small to begin with. I’d have a simple aha moment, maybe nothing really dramatically awesome, but this would cause me to make a little tweak which made my efforts easier and the results better. This would bring me a renewed energy and my confidence would increase. Then another positive result…maybe in the form of seeing a consistent result…which would boost my confidence a bit more. As my confidence grew, the positive thoughts and perspective would overshadow any negative thoughts or even any small mistakes and my focus stayed true. The more I stayed positively focused the more positive momentum built up. Misses had little impact. Worry was silent. And the results just kept coming, often in a string.

As with any wave, eventually there would be a shift in the momentum. A negative thought, habit, or experience would start to creep in and divert my attention to handling a problem. However, the more I stayed true to the end result and allowed my focus to stay positive and always looking for the win, and the improvement I made, no matter how small, I would move through these momentum shifts faster, easier, and be back on the winning wave again. The longer I dwelled or sat in fear, confusion, frustration, or DENIAL the longer it took me to get back on the winning wave.

The lesson…winning has an ebb and a flow. There’s a rhythm to it. The small wins are the beginning of the wave. Sometimes we ignore them, miss them, judge them negatively, or discount them. We need to acknowledge them, give them power, and understand the massive importance of them. This is the mindset of winning. It starts small and builds…just like momentum. We focus on the positive and every day on the improvements we’re making.
Build the momentum of winning and achieving your goals and dreams. Pretty soon winning takes over your life…good things happen. And everyone wins!!!

This is what winners do.

Back in November I challenged you to focus on the Win of the Day (WOTD) and write down 1 win that you achieved for each day. Hopefully you’ve been diligently and consistently doing this very very very simple exercise. If not, or if you stopped, your challenge is to start again, today. 365 days of winning!!!
Let’s do this!!!

Thanks to all of those who "liked" us on Social Media - keep a lookout for fun content to come this year!

For this month's "Give Back Corner" I'd like to keep with the message of WINNING.  Helping a homeless person WIN again is a noble pursuit, and there are countless organizations doing just that.  Homeward Bound is one which helps create pathways out of poverty with housing, life skills, tutoring, job searches, food and more:

Homeward Bound

You can donate to their worthy causes, or find an organization you'd like to support in your community.  Help someone else WIN in 2018.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
